With 3 levels of eye examination for you to choose from, you’ll receive a comprehensive eye test that suits your unique visual requirements
Your eye health is always our main priority at Walford & Round Opticians, and this is why you will receive individual attention from the moment you arrive at the practice. The ongoing health and condition of your eyes depends on regular monitoring, which means it’s very important to keep up to date with your regular eye examinations. Certain conditions such as glaucoma or cataracts can start with no obvious outward symptoms, only internal changes that can be detected by an optometrist.
You will be able to choose from three types of eye examination, allowing you to select the option that suits not only your needs and preferences, but your budget too.
Your eye examination will be 30-50 minutes long to allow for a thorough check-up; regardless of the test you choose, you will always receive an exceptional level of care and expertise
Comprehensive Examination
The comprehensive examination is the most detailed eye care option that we provide. This examination includes the following:
- Fundus (retinal) photography – digital photographs of the backs of your eyes. This provides a permanent record of the health of your eyes, and enables any changes to be monitored over time. This is especially useful for conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, glaucoma and macular degeneration, which do demonstrate subtle changes as the condition progresses.
- A measurement of your prescription and comparison to your existing glasses to determine whether a new prescription is necessary.
- An extended examination of your visual field (peripheral vision), to test for signs of glaucoma and other conditions.
- Assessment of the extraocular muscles, which control the eyes, to ensure that they co-ordinate properly.
Your optometrist may also carry out additional tests depending on your personal circumstances and situation.
At the end of the examination, you will be given a copy of your prescription, a full report on the condition of your eyes and the results of any supplementary tests that were performed. You are free to take your prescription to any optician to be dispensed, although advice from the General Optical Council states that it is often easier to resolve problems with prescriptions if the prescription and supply of glasses are from the same source.
Advanced Examination
This is our entry-level private examination, and is available to patients entitled to NHS help with their eye examination on payment of a small top-up fee.
The Advanced examination includes all the tests that are provided with the Comprehensive examination, with the exception of retinal photography. During this test we will also provide a more extensive examination of your peripheral vision than with the Basic (NHS) examination, which may allow for earlier detection of glaucoma.
At the end of the examination, you will be given a copy of your prescription, a full report on the condition of your eyes and the results of any supplementary tests that were performed.
Basic (NHS) Examination
The basic NHS examination includes sufficient tests to ensure the health of your eyes, but does not cover the range of eye health criteria to the standard that we would normally prefer. The NHS fee is unfortunately insufficient to cover the costs of the equipment and optometrist time to carry our further testing. This is why we recommend that you upgrade to our Advanced or Comprehensive examinations which incorporate more detailed assessments.
At the end of your Basic examination, you will be given a copy of your prescription.
